The idea of writing an article about what I consider the best Disney board games currently on the market came from my very recent visit to the Disney 100th Anniversary Exhibition in London.
2023 was a milestone year for Disney, as it marks the 100th Anniversary of its foundation.
Since its creation in 1923, this brand has given the world exceptional animated films that will remain in people’s memories forever, as well as live-action films, television series, games and theme parks that welcome millions of people every year.
To write this personal list, I have only considered games closely related to the main brand, and not its subsidiaries such as Marvel (if you’re looking for that you can hop onto my favourite Marvel board games article).
As always, these are my personal considerations and you may or may not agree with them. Peace.

Disney Villainous – Worst Takes It All
Villainous is a board game where players take on the roles of famous Disney villains and compete to achieve their own unique objectives.
You can choose your alter-ego from iconic characters like Captain Hook, Maleficent, Jafar, Ursula, Prince John and the Queen of Hearts.
Each villain has a deck of cards and special abilities, that add strategic depth and thematic immersion to the gameplay.
Disney Villainous is an excellent choice for game nights, offering an engaging experience to players of various skill levels. You’ll find the instructions clear and easy to understand, as each villain comes with their own guide containing strategies and tips for successful gameplay.
One of the strengths of this board game is its high replay value. As you master one villain’s strategy, you can move on to the others and experience unique gameplay each time.
However, the complexity of strategies might be too overwhelming for some players, so it perhaps isn’t for everyone.
If you’re interested in knowing more you can read my Disney Villainous review.
Pros
- A wide variety of popular Disney villains and characters.
- Suitable for game nights with family and devoted Disney fans.
- High replay value with different strategies to master.
Cons
- May have a learning curve for children or first-time strategy game players.
- Complexity could be overwhelming for some players.
- Potentially longer playtime for larger groups.
Dixit Disney Edition
You all know Dixit, right? Right?
Dixit is a storytelling card game that utilizes beautiful, surreal artwork to spark players’ imaginations.
Here’s how it works:
One player is the storyteller and chooses a card from their hand as inspiration. That player makes up a short clue or statement to describe the card without directly naming what’s on it.
All other players then select a card from their own hands that they think could match the clue and place it face down in front of them.
Cards will then get shuffled and revealed, and each player whose card is chosen scores points.
The game comes with 84 beautifully designed cards, featuring scenes from iconic Disney and Pixar movies, which truly capture the magic and imagination of both worlds.
Though the manufacturer recommends the game for ages 8 and up, keep in mind that very young kids may struggle with the storytelling aspect of the game. That said, playing with family or friends of various ages can inspire a wonderful range of storytelling and guessing, sparking both creativity and nostalgia.
One drawback, shared by all Dixit games, is the potential limitation on replayability, especially if you play with the same group repeatedly.
However, the charm of Disney movies, beautifully captured in the cards, ensures that the game will always have a special place in your game collection.
Pros
- Stunning Disney-themed artwork.
- Simple and engaging gameplay.
- Perfect for Disney and Dixit fans alike.
Cons
- Not suitable for very young children.
- Limited replayability if you always play with the same group of friends.
- Some may miss traditional Dixit illustrations.
Smash Up: Disney Edition
Smash Up: Disney Edition card game breathes new life into your board game nights by combining your favourite Disney characters and the ever-popular shuffle-building game mechanic.
This version of the game lets you mix and match eight different factions, including Frozen, Big Hero 6, Wreck-It Ralph, The Lion King, Mulan, Aladdin, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Beauty & the Beast.
As the original Smash Up game, the aim is to create unique decks and take advantage of the diverse abilities and roles each character brings to the table in order to destroy bases and get points.
Smash Up: Disney Edition stays true to its roots by providing a nostalgic and engaging experience and if you’re a fan of Disney movies or Smash Up, you’ll surely enjoy adding this game to your collection.
There are a few cons I found worth mentioning and you can find them here below if you keep reading.
Pros
- It contains enumerated base mats to help track the power level and the breakpoint of the base.
- The gameplay of each faction is really fun, and in some cases better than the original game.
- Compatible with previous versions and expansions for increased replayability.
Cons
- Cards may feel very thin compared to other versions, did they try to save some bucks with the printing?
- The artwork of the cards is horrible and it doesn’t live up to Disney fans’ expectations.
- Lacks classic Disney characters like Mickey or Snow White.
The Magical World of Disney Trivia
The Magical World of Disney Trivia (and the 100 Years of Wonder Edition) is a question-and-answer style trivia game where players race around the board answering Disney-themed questions.
The board features different spaces and each one of them has a unique colour. The colour you land on indicates the type of question you’ll have to answer.
If you answer it correctly you get a matching Color Swirl and the aim of the game is to collect all the colours. If you do it before anyone else you’ll be the winner.
The design of this trivia game is captivating, with an attention to detail that makes it feel like a collectable.
From the original Disney and Pixar sketch art to the 3D board elements, it’s evident that much thought and care have gone into creating this magical experience.
Plus, the wide range of questions – 2,000 in total! – ensures that even the most ardent Disney fans will find something new and challenging to test their knowledge.
Just bear in mind that some questions can be quite tricky for casual fans or older players who aren’t well-versed in newer Disney films.
Pros
- Suitable for various age groups; there’s a special deck of cards for very young kids.
- Wide range of questions, covering both classic and modern Disney films.
- Beautifully designed with original Disney and Pixar sketch art and 3D board elements.
Cons
- May be challenging for casual Disney fans and for those people who aren’t familiar with newer movies.
- Some of the answers are actually wrong.
- Could be time-consuming depending on players’ trivia knowledge.
Codenames Disney Family Edition
In this game, two Cluemasters work with their teams to identify all of their team’s Disney Treasure Cards. The game is played on a 4×4 grid featuring 16 cards that portray Disney animation movie frames.
On their team’s turn, Cluemasters provide a clue consisting of a word and a number (e.g. Snow : 3), where the word refers to the treasure cards the team has to guess and the number indicates how many cards are connected to that clue.
Teammates will then try to guess the cards (in the example above the clue “Snow” refers to 3 cards) and after the team has finished guessing, those cards get covered with the appropriate Cover Card; this is a card that has your team’s colour Blue or Red, or neutral colour Beige.
The first team to identify and cover all the cards on the grid with your team’s coloured Cover Card will be the winning team.
Pros
- Combines the popular Codenames game with iconic Disney characters and artwork.
- Suitable for all ages, making it a perfect family game.
- Easy to learn and offers various gameplay options.
Cons
- Requires some familiarity with Disney characters for competitive play.
- May not be as challenging for hardcore Codenames players.
- Limited by the number of included Disney characters.
Colorbrain Disney Edition
The game that marks your landing in the second half of my personal Disney board game list is none other than Colorbrain, an absolute hit for families who share a very deep love for Disney.
This is another trivia game with the twist that the correct answer or answers are already in your hand, in the form of coloured cards.
All the questions are, in fact, colour-related and your attention to detail will be deeply tested.
For example, a question card could be the following: Flora, Fauna and Merryweather – 3 colours.
The question means: what are the colours of the three good fairies in Sleeping Beauty? The colours you have to guess are 3.
In your hand, you’ll have a plethora of coloured cards from which you can choose 3. Place then the 3 cards face down on the table and wait for all the others to answer.
The first person or team that places the cards on the table will trigger a countdown of 15 seconds. If the other players don’t answer within that time they won’t get points for that round.
The game is designed to be fun and engaging, testing the players’ knowledge and observation skills of various Disney films.
The challenge lies in remembering minor details, such as the colour of Princess Elsa’s eyes or Woody’s vest from Toy Story, making the game a delightful test of memory and attention to detail.
Pros
- The price is a real bargain.
- Stimulates memory and observation skills.
- Wide range of questions from over 20 Disney films.
Cons
- Some questions are VERY difficult and players with limited film knowledge may struggle a lot.
- It might need some extra house rules for people who are colour-blind.
- Cards quality could be better, I’d recommend using card sleeves.
Disney Chronology
Released in 2023, the Disney Chronology game offers a unique way to celebrate the magic of Disney’s history.
The goal of the game is to build a timeline of 10 cards and if you place them in the correct order before everyone else, you win the game.
Chronology cards feature characters, movies and events and with over 150 cards spanning the entire Disney timeline, you’ll have a great time testing your knowledge with events from a century of magical moments.
Pros
- Engaging and educational.
- Suitable for all ages.
- Over 150 different events.
Cons
- Requires a strong Disney knowledge.
- Not as accessible for non-Disney enthusiasts.
- Low replayability as the history can’t be changed.
Eye Found It!
Eye Found It! is a cooperative board game in which you and your family will be racing across 12 illustrated Disney realms, such as Radiator Springs from Cars, Alice’s Wonderland, Peter Pan’s Never Land, and Pooh’s Hundred Acre Wood.
The game is played on a massive 6-foot long game board and the winning condition is to reach Cinderella’s castle before the clock strikes midnight. To keep track of time you have to set the clock to 1:00 and start the game.
On your turn, you have to spin the spinner and do one of the following actions:
- If you get the number, move your Disney miniature on the game board by many spaces according to that number.
- If you get the Mickey Mouse figure, you reveal one of the cards in the deck and search for the related hidden treasures on the board before the sand timer runs out. All players move by many spaces on the board equal to the number of hidden treasures found.
- If you get the clock tower, tick the clock forward and then spin again.
The game is perfect for kids and it’s designed to help them develop valuable skills, such as focus, memory, object identification, and teamwork.
Each realm is full of hidden treasures and features iconic Disney objects to find, invoking a sense of wonder and curiosity in every player.
Pros
- Engaging, colourful six-foot game board full of Disney characters and realms.
- Develops critical skills like focus, memory, object identification, and teamwork.
- Suitable for a wide range of ages (4-15) and allows for up to 6 players.
Cons
- Requires quite a bit of space to play on due to the length of the game board.
- May be too simple for older children or adults seeking a challenging game.
- Some users may find tracking multiple characters and locations overwhelming.
Around The World Game
In Disney Around The World, you and your family will guide your balloon through six charming Disney Lands and collect Stamps for your passport.
Roll a die to see where you’ll move on the board and if you’re the first player to collect six different Stamps you win.
The game pieces are high quality and durable, ensuring that your game will stand the test of time.
I believe that this game is better to be played with very young kids, I strongly discourage you from playing it with grown-ups as it’s way too simple.
Pros
- Engaging family fun for ages 4 and up.
- Features beloved Disney and Pixar characters.
- Charming artwork inspired by Disney Maps.
Cons
- Gameplay might be too simple for some players.
- Limited strategy options.
- Repetitive after several plays.
Happiest Day
The last game on my list of Disney board games is The Happiest Day.
The game is designed to let you experience the magic of visiting a Disney theme park, in this case, Magic Kingdom.
The goal of the game is to navigate through the park trying to get to the locations that match the cards in your hand. The player with the most scored cards wins.
The game boasts an impressively detailed and gorgeously illustrated double-sided game board, which draws you into the picturesque setting of Magic Kingdom Park.
Together with the detailed park-touring character figurines, the game becomes a visual treat, enhancing your experience even further.
Although the game is designed for players aged 5 and up, it may prove to be slightly challenging for younger players who need extra guidance during the game.
The instructions could also be clearer, which might lead to some confusion initially. However, once you’ve grasped the concept and mechanics, the game becomes much more accessible, making it enjoyable for all.
Pros
- Engaging experience, visiting attractions and meeting characters.
- Beautifully illustrated double-sided game board and Castle.
- Suitable for players aged 5 and up.
Cons
- Slightly complex for younger players.
- Instructions may be unclear for some and the quality of components could be better.
- Gameplay may feel repetitive after several rounds.
